Ordering.co vs Heartland / Genius
Heartland’s current brand page identifies its transition to Global Payments and points buyers to Genius solutions. Heartland Restaurant and Genius documentation cover staff POS, handheld ordering and payments, kitchen tools, and customer online ordering. Ordering.co provides branded ordering channels and connected merchant and driver operations. If you are searching for the Heartland restaurant app, first identify the user: a server taking a table’s payment and a customer placing a delivery order need different applications and permissions.

Why evaluate the ordering channel separately
Design the customer experience under your brand
Ordering.co connects your website and customer apps to the merchant order flow. Compare discovery, menu, payment, reorder, status and customer support independently of the staff POS device.
Make delivery an operating workflow
Configure service zones, driver availability, assignment, communication and proof. The existing POS already advertises online orders and third-party delivery connections, so test the precise own-fleet and exception paths you need.
Keep frontend control and payment commitments distinct
Ordering.co includes its frontends and extension tools while the selected gateway retains its payment role. Evaluate POS replacement and processing changes as separate decisions with their own contracts and reconciliation.
Compare the role, product, and payment agreement
| Capability | Ordering.co | Heartland / Genius |
|---|---|---|
| Staff operation and customer orders | ||
| Restaurant mobile app | Merchant App connects the catalog, incoming orders, store workflow, and the shared ordering operation. | The staff handheld provides mobile POS functions, table-side order/payment, and manager tasks. It is not automatically a branded customer ordering app or a consumer food-delivery download. |
| Customer online ordering | Branded websites and customer apps share catalog, checkout, merchant operations, and delivery data. | Restaurant materials already describe web/mobile ordering for pickup and delivery, with POS synchronization. Verify the customer channel in the specific Heartland or Genius proposal. |
| Kitchen and self-ordering | Coordinate merchant acceptance and the kitchen handoff with kiosk and other ordering channels. Scope hardware and kitchen display connections explicitly. | KDS, kiosks, scan-to-order/pay and mobile staff devices are documented. Device and edition prerequisites must match the installed product. |
| Payment acceptance | Connect supported payment gateways and merchant accounts. Confirm device, country, fees, settlement, refunds, and exception ownership. | Payment processing, terminals, supported gateways and software edition form a specific configuration. New-merchant offers may require using Genius processing; do not assume any processor can replace it. |
| Cost, data, and hosting | ||
| Entry price and contractual cost | Compare platform, setup, devices, integration, usage, processing, delivery, and support costs for the same locations and operating period. | Legacy pricing examples and a current Genius get-started offer are different proposals. The current program keeps processing and other charges, eligibility, term and cash-discount conditions; request your written total. |
| Menu, customer and transaction records | Map catalog, identities, consent, tax records, refunds and settlement references before import; keep gateway credentials with the processor. | Confirm the exact exports and rights for the installed product and account. A management app or web report does not establish transferable customer payment tokens or a complete historical import. |
| Managed operation and devices | Managed infrastructure by default. Enterprise packages can install the same backend in the customer’s AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, or Railway account. | Web/mobile administration and POS devices are part of the documented operating model. Scope local connectivity, offline behavior, software updates and terminal support separately. |
| Ordering product and technical control | ||
| Native delivery-driver operating app | Driver availability, assignment, navigation, order communication, and proof by PIN, photo, signature, or video. Scope your own fleet and connected providers for the service area. | Not listed |
| Checkout across independent merchants | Operate independent merchants and a customer checkout across stores, with a delivery or pickup time per order. | Not listed |
| Included open-source ordering frontends | Open-source frontends for the storefront, customer apps, Merchant App, Driver App, and Dashboard are included with every product; backend and API are managed by default. | Not listed |
| Enterprise installation in your cloud account | Managed infrastructure by default. Enterprise packages can install the same backend in the customer’s AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, or Railway account. | Not listed |
“Not listed” means the capability does not appear in Heartland / Genius's product lineup. Confirm scope and terms with each provider.
Read the operating and commercial boundaries together
An entry offer is not zero total processing cost
The current Genius program requires approved new merchants, Genius processing, a three-year contract and 4% cash discounting; processing and other charges remain. Its volume and equipment conditions must match the buyer. Compare the actual merchant agreement, not the free-entry headline.
Mobile POS is not customer-app ownership
Define whether the proposed app is for servers, managers, buyers or drivers. A handheld terminal does not establish customer-app source rights, a marketplace, or a native courier operation.
A partner directory is not a working connection
No active Heartland/Genius-to-Ordering.co connection is implied. Identify the connector owner, order path, menu authority, payment mapping and supported version before planning to keep the POS.
Match the installed product and the current proposal
A legacy Heartland name, a Genius release, and a new-merchant commercial program do not establish identical devices, payment gateways or terms. Confirm the country, product edition, counter/handheld model and supported processor for your actual deployment.

What moves
Staff roles and menu mapping
Inventory counter and handheld devices, permissions, modifier groups, tax mapping, price overrides, printers and kitchen routing. Separate staff POS access from customer identities.
Financial and customer continuity
Export authorized records, preserve consent and fiscal archives, and reconcile open tabs, tips, refunds and settlement. Processor contracts, stored cards and hardware terms require their own transition plan.
How the move runs
Identify the actual edition and agreements
Record Heartland versus Genius edition, device models, gateway, country, term and notice window. Decide whether the project keeps POS and adds ordering or replaces both.
Prove a complete restaurant shift
Test table-side ordering, web pickup, delivery, unavailable items, declined payment, tip adjustment, refund and day-end reporting. Confirm recovery without duplicate kitchen tickets.
Release after payment reconciliation
Train the team, change customer links and monitor exceptions. Keep the old reports and processor access until open transactions and contractual responsibilities are resolved.
Questions about the Heartland restaurant app
Is Heartland now Genius?
Global Payments identifies the Heartland brand transition and offers Genius POS. Confirm the actual restaurant edition and migration path; branding does not mean every legacy installation or contract becomes identical.
Which restaurant app should I evaluate?
Specify the actor. Mobile POS is for staff taking orders and payments; a management portal serves operators; customer online ordering is another surface. Choose supported devices and access for the required role.
Does Heartland already support pickup and delivery orders?
Its restaurant product materials describe those channels and third-party delivery connections. Test own-driver assignment and exceptions separately from the fact that the POS receives a delivery order.
Can I keep the POS and add Ordering.co?
A coexistence project needs a supported connection or defined handoff and a payment reconciliation plan. Do not assume a connector or a change to your processing agreement without confirming both.
