How a push notification reaches a device

Set up and go live

  1. Create a Firebase project for Android and an APNs key in your Apple Developer account for iOS.
  2. In OneSignal, create an app for each Ordering.co app, upload the Firebase service account and the Apple key, and copy the App ID and an API Key.
  3. In the Ordering.co Dashboard, open Settings > Pro > Push notifications and paste each App ID and REST API key into the matching fields.
  4. Set One Signal Default Enabled to No so your own apps are used.
  5. Select the order-status events for Administrator, Business, Customer, and Driver, then save.
  6. Place a test order on a device that allows notifications and confirm the alert arrives.

What does OneSignal do in Ordering.co?

It delivers the push notifications Ordering.co sends when an order changes status, so administrators, business owners, customers, and drivers hear about the orders they need to act on.

Which apps can receive push notifications?

The customer app, the business app, the driver app, your ordering website, and the Dashboard. Each one has its own OneSignal App ID and REST API key.

Can I choose which events each group receives?

Yes. Administrators, business owners, customers, and drivers each have their own list of order-status events, such as a new pending order, an order accepted by the business, a driver assigned, or a delivery completed.

What if a new order is not accepted right away?

Turn on notification repeats for administrators, business owners, or drivers. The alert repeats up to 15 times, at the interval you set, while the order waits for a response.

Do I need my own OneSignal account?

The platform can use default credentials. To send through your own OneSignal apps, add your App IDs and REST API keys and set One Signal Default Enabled to No, otherwise your keys are ignored.

How do I keep my keys safe?

Treat your REST API keys as secrets. Enter them only in the Dashboard, never in screenshots, tickets, or shared documents.
