Customer ordering

Let customers pick up the cart where they left off.

Real-time Cart Sync lets a signed-in customer access the same cart across devices and continue ordering without starting over.

Build the cart
Continue the order
The customer signs in, then moves between devices without rebuilding the cart.

Cart continuity

The cart stays with the customer, not the device.

Once a customer signs in, their cart carries over between web, app, and any other device they sign into, so switching devices never means rebuilding the order.

Where you use it: Storefront and customer app, for signed-in customers

The cart itself

Requires sign-in
Cart sync applies once the customer signs in to their account on a device; it does not follow a guest session.
Same cart on every device
Items added to the cart on one device are there when the customer opens their account on another.
Changes carry over immediately
Adding, removing, or changing an item updates the cart right away, wherever the customer opens it next.

Why it matters

  • No rebuilding the orderA customer who starts on a laptop and finishes on their phone picks up exactly where they left off.
  • Fewer abandoned carts from a device switchThe order survives the customer changing devices mid-decision, instead of being lost with the session.

Continue, do not restart

A cart can stay with the customer as the device changes.

This capability is useful when customers begin browsing in one place and complete the order somewhere else.

  1. 01

The customer accesses their account on the device or platform they are using.

  2. 02

    Build the cart

Items added to the cart are available as the customer continues the ordering journey.

  3. 03

    Move to another device

The signed-in customer can continue shopping and place the order without starting the cart over.

An order experience with context

Make it easier for customers to review the cart before they place the order.

Current cart

Customers can access their shopping cart from multiple devices and platforms in real time.

Changes reflected

Adding or removing an item can be reflected in the cart so customers can check the order they want to place.

Implementation focus

Start with the account journey customers will recognize.

Cart continuity depends on the customer signing in before moving between devices. Define that account entry point clearly in the storefront experience so the handoff makes sense to the customer.
